Immerse Yourself In The Sound Of The Big Band Era To Expand Your Mind & Aural Palette
Colorado native Darren Kramer is a world-class professional trombonist, composer, and bandleader who has written and arranged over 50 big band charts, toured with the legendary Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, as well as Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies led by Mercer Ellington. Kramer will guide you on a fascinating journey “Inside The Music” for a rare behind-the-scenes look of how a musician listens, speaks, reads, and writes when performing in a large jazz ensemble. Big Band Classics like “Take The A Train”, “I’m Gettin’ Sentimental Over You” and “In The Mood” will be explored using recordings, vintage video clips, and even a live trombone and piano performance!

This sonic tasting event will expand your aural palette by using Ableton Live software to highlight and isolate each ingredient that make up the recipe of a classic jazz recording. Professional musician and Ableton Certified Trainer Darren Kramer will guide you on a fascinating journey “Inside The Music” for a rare behind-the-scenes look of how a musician listens, speaks, reads, and writes when performing in a small jazz group. Highlights & in-depth discussion of classic recordings by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Herbie Hancock will be explored. You will also have a special opportunity to savor the subtle ingredients of isolated individual tracks of world-renowned saxophonist Michael Brecker from the 2004 NYC recording session of Kramer’s own DKO CD “In The Now”.
